Wide Application of Silicone Synthetic Adhesives

Silicone adhesives are adhesives based on linear or branched silicone polymer compounds. It can be divided into two categories: adhesives (including coatings) based on silicone resin and adhesives (including sealing materials) based on silicone rubber (silicone elastomer). There is a difference in connection density, so the final performance is different.The chemical structures of the two are different: the main chain structure of silicone resin is composed of silicon-oxygen bonds, which is a three-dimensional structure that can be further condensed at high temperatures to become a highly cross-linked hard and brittle resin. Silicone elastomer, also known as silicone rubber, is a polymer elastic material with a main chain structure composed of strong silicon-oxygen bonds, with a molecular weight ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands. It must be condensed into a cross-linked elastomer under the action of a vulcanizing agent or catalyst. Due to the different cross-linking densities of the two, there are differences in the final physical form and properties.

At present, among synthetic adhesives, the production and usage of silicone adhesives account for a small proportion. Although they are structural adhesives, they are often used as non-structural adhesives, but they have wide and important applications. This is different from other adhesives. Drugs cannot replace it.Because silicone adhesives contain Si-0 bonds with an inorganic structure, they have certain characteristics of organic and inorganic materials. They can maintain unchanged physical and chemical properties in a wide temperature range (-60~+1200℃), especially in It has excellent thermal stability at high temperatures, so it is often used as a high-temperature protective layer.At the same time, it has excellent water resistance, weather resistance, radiation resistance, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, waterproofness and climate resistance. Pure silicone resin adhesive can be used at -60~400℃ for a long time and up to 450~500℃ for a short time. Silicone resin adhesive has the characteristics of good water resistance, medium resistance and weather resistance, but its shortcomings of brittleness and low bonding strength affect its application. At present, in order to obtain better high-temperature physical and chemical properties, resins such as phenol alcohol, epoxy, polyester, and polyurethane are usually used to modify them. Can be bonded to metal, plastic, rubber, glass, ceramics, etc. It has been widely used in aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, electronic and electrical industries, machining, automobile manufacturing, construction and medical treatment.

Silicone type adhesive
Silicone resin is a polyorganosiloxane polymer compound. Before curing, it is a branched chain structure with multifunctional groups, and after curing, it forms a body structure. One of the most outstanding properties of adhesives formulated with silicone resin is its excellent heat resistance. It can be used at high temperatures of 200°C for a long time and for a short time around 250°C. In addition, with the phenyl content in the side chain Its heat resistance is more outstanding, and it also has cold resistance, electrical insulation and weather resistance. Therefore, it is used as the main component of high-temperature adhesives.

Divided into three categories according to use:
CD is a thermosetting silicone solution containing fillers and curing agents for bonding metals and heat-resistant non-metallic materials. The bonding parts can be used in the range of -60~120℃;
The main components of silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives are MQ silicone resin containing light groups as the bonding component, and polydimethylsiloxane containing tibia groups at the end as the film-forming component. Although this type of adhesive is bonded The strength is not high, but it can be bonded to a variety of difficult-to-bond materials (such as unsurface-treated polyethylene plastics, nitrogen plastics, polyimide, polycarbonate, etc.), and can be used at -55~260℃ Under long-term use, silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives are also suitable for manufacturing glass cloth adhesive tapes and H-class electrical insulation pressure-sensitive tapes;
High-reliability electronic-grade silicone adhesive suitable for development in the electronics industry. It is used as internal coating resin for high-power tubes and integrated circuit packages to prevent component contamination, surface leakage current, moisture and corrosion protection, etc.

Silicone resin is used as an adhesive. Because the helical structure of the polysiloxane molecule offsets the polarity of the Si-0 bond, and because the side group R shields the Si-0 bond, the entire molecule becomes non-polar and has small cohesive force. Therefore, silicone resin has poor adhesiveness and low adhesive strength.
